First things first

All roof framing members can be represented by lines be it heavy timber or lumber

These are the basics. a2 + b2 = c2
The span of the roof is 24'
The run of the roof is 12'
Notice the angles we will use them frequently
The symbol with two flags is the French carpenters symbol for the centerline.

12'^2 + 10'^2 = c2
144 + 100 = c2
244 = c2
square roof of 244 = 15.6205
.6205 x12"= 7.445992 inches
.445992 x 32nds = 14/32
Therefore the diagonal or rafter is 15' 7 7/16"

You will notice that the design program is working in 64ths I will round down.
